Tiny Experiments

2026, Jun 27

The book starts off with the promise to be contradict the traditional approach to goal setting and higher purpose in life. But, what I found is that the book ultimately talks about the same things but tries to make it more accessible to people who get intimidated by the largeness of these concepts.

My notes and ideas to revist

  1. Once in a while, stop and think before climbing the corporate ladder. Does the next rung in the ladder still make sense?
  2. Why traditional goal setting is not good enough - It makes our view too narrow and has no scope for curiosity.
  3. Tiny experiments gives you permission to take a step based on the data available at the moment instead of being stagnated until perfection.
  4. Escape the "should". This is called "cognitive script" - what we expect to happen before it happens.
  5. Types of cognitive scripts: the Sequel, the Crowdpleaser, and the Epic.
  6. Chronos vs Kairos : The amount of time given to a task vs the meaningful moments that transcends time.
  7. Recognise your magic window. Identify what work gets done in that window. Keep it open and protect it from other mundane tasks.
  8. Procrastination is a signal - from head, heart, or hand - is it the right thing to do, do you enjoy doing it, or do you have the skills to do it. (Food for thought: what was the reason for procrastinating physiotherapy in June, 2026)
  9. Introspection vs Meta-cognition : Noticing your thoughts vs awareness + analysis.
  10. Tool Plus, Minus, Next -> After a timebound experiment, write what went well, what did not go well, and what is the next step. Make this data driven -> includes emotional data.
  11. Disruptions in experiments are inevitable. First deal with the subjective experience (how you feel about it). Then deal with the objective experience (practical implications).
  12. Seek fellow explorers.
  13. Learn in public.
  14. Let go of legacy.

Design growth loops.
